The three Eldercollege courses in Lakeshore will be taught by retired Windsor Star reporter and photographer Gary Rennie.

RE: Winter Control Operations

The Town of Lakeshore will soon be undertaking Winter Control Operations. In order to better assist us in providing an optimum level of service in the Industrial Park, we are asking for your cooperation in the following areas:

During the winter months, the Town of Lakeshore would appreciate if all delivery trucks and employee vehicles are parked in the appropriate parking lot. This will provide a clear path for our Operators to clear the snow/ice from curb to curb, thus providing for a safer road surface.
While every possible effort is made to respond quickly to a severe winter event, there will be times when delays will occur. Priority is given to main roads and highways before we begin clearing local roads. We ask for your patience during these times.
Please note that it is unlawful under the Highway Traffic Act to deposit snow or ice onto streets. Snow from parking lots and driveways are to be kept on your property. Please instruct your contractors accordingly.

In addition, please ensure that excess snow from parking areas is not piled in the Municipal ROW where it will potentially block sight lines for intersections and driveway entrances.

With your assistance, our goal is to clear all roads in a timely fashion, and we ask for your cooperation to ensure that we can respond quickly and efficiently during winter events. Lakeshore has only 12 staff and 10 plows to clear over 520 km of roadways and we generally ensure every road is cleared during the winter snow storms. During a severe storm, our staff will work in teams in order to provide continual coverage of the main roads. The roads in the Patillo Road industrial park are a top priority for our crews to ensure that delivery trucks and employees can get to and from their destination safely, and on time.

TOWN AND COUNTRY BRANCH OF THE PIKE CREEK DRAIN

The work on this project comprises of the construction of a new open drain including existing open drain improvements and the installation of two (2) enclosures with one (1) enclosure involving a roadway crossing.

The enclosure work shall also include the removal of a roadway culvert, brush and tree removal, pipe installation, the connection of all existing lateral tiles and pipe, shop fabricated stubs, tile main, compacted backfill, swale construction, quarried limestone endwalls, grading, roadway shoulder and pavement restoration, topsoil, seeding and mulching and all ancillary work related thereto, including cleanup and restoration.

The open drain work shall consist of open drain excavation and improvements including brush and tree removal and disposal, trucking of excavated material, spreading of excavated material, rock chute spillway installations, quarried limestone erosion protection liner, fence removal, topsoil, seeding and mulching and all ancillary work related thereto, including cleanup and restoration.

Beginning on Monday, January 16th, 2012, complete tender documents may be obtained on payment of a non-refundable deposit of $25.00 for each tender at the Town of Lakeshore office, 419 Notre Dame Street, Belle River, ON during normal office hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)

Sealed Tenders, clearly marked as to their contents will be received by the Purchasing Coordinator, Town of Lakeshore, 419 Notre Dame Street, Belle River, ON N0R 1A0 until 12:00 noon local time on:

* Cooking is a major cause of home fires, so don't leave the kitchen if there's something cooking on the stove. If a pot catches fire, don't try to move it. Cover the pot with a lid to smother the flames and turn off the burner.
* If the smoke alarm activates when you're cooking, do not remove the batteries. Try moving the smoke alarm, or install an alarm with a hush feature.
* Lit candles should be placed in sturdy candleholders that won't tip and covered with a glass shade. Candles should be situated away from children, pets and any combustible items.
* Keep matches and lighters out of reach of children.
* Drink responsibly and keep an eye on those who do not. Excessive alcohol consumption is a contributing factor in many residential fires.
* Install working smoke alarms on every storey of the home and outside all sleeping areas. It's the law! Failure to comply with the smoke alarm law can result in a ticket for $235.00 or a fine of up to $50,000.00.

When: Saturday, September 3^rd at 7pm with rain date scheduled for September 4^th (should it be raining approx one hour before the start time of 7pm it will be postponed to the 4^th at 7pm).
